This Saturday, Last Call Media and the Drupal Community celebrate the one-year anniversary of the official release of Drupal 8.  It’s been an exciting, fast-paced year of applying this great tool to our client’s and our own business challenges.  We have been proud to participate in the community’s efforts to refine the platform, and we frequently find ourselves recommending Drupal 8 as the right tool for a large number of client needs.

By the time Drupal 8 was officially launched in October 2015, Last Call Media was leading the way with a two-year head start, relaunching our own website, lastcallmedia.com on D8 in the fall of 2013. It was new territory - community modules were not yet started and we had to write code for driving Drupal 8’s capabilities to a shippable state.  Yet that was what we wanted; Drupal 8 gave us the perfect opportunity to get in on the ground floor of the new version and give back to this community by providing a real world implementation (and contribute back a lot of code). The project was consistent with Last Call Media’s desire to fill a niche where we’re able to do really ambitious things with Drupal well and where we maintain the highest industry standards and practices in Drupal development. We wrote about our experiences with lastcallmedia.comhere: https://lastcallmedia.com/wysiwyg-with-drupal-8.

That experience paved the way for our next Drupal 8 offerings. Since 2014, Last Call Media has provided complex, expert Drupal hosting, maintenance and development services for multiple properties for Chicken Soup for the Soul. This year, they were ready to build their newest websites using Drupal 8, launching both Chicken Soup for the Soul Pets, and Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment. From start to finish, the majority of development was completed within two weeks for both sites, and each showcases the power of this tool in the hands of experienced developers.

Next, this past October, the Rainforest Alliance and Last Call Media launched an exciting redesign of www.rainforest-alliance.org, built on Drupal 8 and employing seasoned agile software development methodologies. Our productive partnership with the Rainforest Alliance resulted in a technically groundbreaking site that allowed users unprecedented access to the riches of their content after just four months of development. The project launched as arguably the most impressive Drupal 8 site launched to date, and most importantly in time for Rainforest Alliance’s major end-of-year donation campaign. The site delivers on its promise to showcase the Rainforest Alliance’s exciting and informative messages and beautiful imagery, and stands as testimony to the efficacy of the agile approach.  More here: https://lastcallmedia.com/rainforest-alliance-d8-agile.

All in all, we’re grateful that it’s been a busy and successful year for both Drupal 8 and for Last Call Media. We’ve got some exciting new stuff in the works for our own site as well as for a few intrepid client partners ready to leverage the power and potential of Drupal 8.  We are honored to mark this special milestone with the spectacular Drupal community of which we’re proud to be a part. No open source platform can succeed without the dedicated people that contribute the ideas and the code that have made Drupal 8 the vibrant tool it is today, and we can’t wait to see what we collectively come up with next.  For more information on Drupal 8, agile coaching, or working with us, drop us a line.

Happy Birthday, Drupal 8!
